Benedictine Sisters of VA/BEACON for English Language and Literacy

BEACON’s mission is to empower adult learners to improve their quality of life by offering English language classes, citizenship preparation, employment skills training, and literacy education. Through well-trained volunteers, technology, and local partnerships, BEACON provides opportunities for local residents to give back to the community. The program fosters inclusivity, bringing together people from all backgrounds through stewardship, service, and hospitality, to achieve BEACON's vision to be a transformational English language and literacy program.

Meet the Organizer

Benedictine Sisters of VA/BEACON for English Language and Literacy

Founded in 1992 by the Benedictine Sisters of Virginia, BEACON for English Language and Literacy is an award-winning community literacy program serving under-resourced adult immigrants in Prince William County, Virginia, including the City of Manassas and Manassas Park. BEACON offers eight levels of English classes from pre-literacy to advanced grammar and composition, job readiness skills, citizenship classes, and other services. BEACON is a volunteer-supported, secular program that welcomes participants of all backgrounds and faiths.
